Julia Proctor is an actor, clown, educator, and community builder. As as actor she's performed and workshopped new plays with such companies as Arena Stage, The Kennedy Center, New Dramatists, The Lark, Project Y, Cincinnati Playhouse, and Round House Theatre. She produced and co-starred in An Unapologetic Mess: a clown show!, a monthly show at the People’s Improv Theatre, sharing her own work and mentoring emerging artists.
|Julia founded Clown Gym, an accessible weekly lab for artists to study clown and theatrical games. She’s an adjunct faculty member at Pace University. Julia believes theatre, especially theatrical clown, is a powerful tool to build community through shared visceral experiences.|
|Julia recently completed her MFA from Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Academy for Classical Acting, and has studied with some of the most prestigious clown teachers in the world such as Philippe Gaulier and Chris Bayes, with whom she completed a pedagogical apprenticeship. Julia is an improvisor, and completed the PIT’s Improv Program.|
